Hello and welcome to SwimLife!

My name is Paula Garcia, I'm 22 years old and I am a student-athlete at The University of Akron. I am from Madrid, Spain and I speak two languages being Spanish my first one and English my second one. I came to the US to study and to continue my swimming career. It was without a doubt the best decision I've ever had. This is my fifth year here and my major is Marketing. This year I am working on an Entrepreneurship minor an a Social Media certificate.

I love to travel and one of my biggest dreams is to travel for an entire summer visiting different places from all around the world! One of my other hobbies is reading. It's a really easy way for me to get away. And of course any sport, playing or watching it I'm pretty much in. Even though I still need to learn more about American football.

I am part of the Akron Swimming & Diving team. I've been in this team over the last four years and now I am starting my fifth and last year. As a college athlete you are eligible for only four years. So you might be wondering why and how am I staying an extra year. Well, after last year with Covid-19 we didn't have as many meets as we usually do and it really affected our season along with many other college sports. So, the NCAA gave all student-athletes the opportunity of having an extra year of their sport, in my case swimming. I decided to take it because there is not a lot of opportunities like this in life and I love what I do.

As a division I athlete I want to share my own passion about swimming along with my personal opinion and experiences over the years. I am excited to have the opportunity to bring the sport of swimming to everyone in an easy, understanding and entertaining way. If you don't know anything about swimming don't worry in this blog you will get easy and engaging content that anyone can follow. You will see the world of swimming in a completely different perspective with a lot of personal stories, behind of scenes and experiences that you won't see anywhere else.
